  usa politicians in charge of the economy for the past 50 years were too stupid to understand how the economy works.

  this just proves my theory, that an education on the top tier universities just sucks and means nothing in the real world, unless its in the stem education.

  for 50 years usa had zero tariffs on other countries.

  f you’re willing, I’d love to keep discussing this. I’ve been where you are—in the wrestling, in the questions, and in the desire for clarity. But truth has a way of inviting us deeper. And sometimes what sounds strange turns out to be the only thing that makes sense.

  Sorry - you must have me confused with someone else. What Im really asking is how anyone can delude themselves into believing any of this. Its a made up story from a couple of thousand years ago, when people still didnt understand things like what causes diseases, what stars are, what the moon is, tectonic plate movement, etc.

  In short they were more ignorant times than now and you can forgive our ancestors for reaching for answers. We cant hide behind that same ignorance today.

  So when we ask, “Who is the Holy Spirit?”, the answer is not a what but a who.

  This sentence makes absolutely no sense - its like something from a Simpsons episode, or the 'who's on first ?' comedy skit by Abott and Costello.

  The term “person” in Trinitarian theology does not carry the modern psychological or behavioral meaning it often does in casual speech today.

  Of course it doesnt - how convenient.

  Aqwswd, I haven't read everything here but I have a question.

  How do you explain the holy spirit? What is it exactly?

  If the holy spirit is god too, it must be another deity right? Complete with its own personality? Who is the holy spirit?

  It can't just be a force if it is god.

  Anonymous, you are using examples of companies already manufacturing inside the US.

  That is absurdly different to a company that operates on the other side of the world and now wants to set up in the US. You make it sound like it's a trivial thing to do.

  For those that have a clue ... if they didn't put tariffs there, what do you think would happen?
  Someone owns it, and someone could register companies there ... to bypass the tariffs.

  Anonymous, let's say that Tesla and Hyundai built factories in a couple of years. How many years of planning went into that decision?

  Let's be generous and say 3 - 4 years from conception to manufacturing. That's Trumps time in office done, unless he changes the laws , which is possible. You are also assuming that all companies will play Trumps game.

  It's more likely that the rest of the world will never trust America again and take measures to ensure they are not put in the same position in the future.

  Trumps game has just earned America a 34% tariff on all goods going to China.

  Trump wants more manufacturing in the US, which might be a good idea ( it might not be), but that is not going to happen overnight,it would take years for companies to set up in the US.

  In the meantime, US consumers pay far more than before for every single item from overseas, including inputs needed for existing manufacturing. Other countries will impose reciprocal tariffs, undermining the sales of any US made items - although most countries are trying to avoid this, to avoid escalation, making it worse for everyone. The rest of the world will find other markets to buy and sell where possible, avoiding the US completely.

  In this scenario, I can't see any tax cuts coming anytime soon for US taxpayers. Trumps plan might be short term but if it isn't, how much retirement savings will people lose if the stock market keeps crashing?

  As Simon said, some countries have protectionist policies for various reasons but almost every actual economist I have listened to has said Trumps tariff chart is mostly fantasy.

  I read that the weighted average of tariffs the EU applies to US goods is 1%.

  It seems obvious there is something bigger going here. There are theories that Trump wants to divide the world into 3 between US/ Russia/ China - with each administering their own region. That would mean Canada is to the US as Ukraine is to Russia. Trump has described Canada's border as fictional.
